The 9th AF in the E.T.O.


IX Reconnaissance Group
The first Recce Group arrived in 1942 in the UK and was first assigned to the IX Fighter Command. Later on the Recce Groups were assigned to the various Tactical Air Commands (IX TAC, XIX TAC and XXIX TAC).
There were five Recce Groups active within the various IX Commands:
  • the Prov.Recce Group,
  • the 10th PRG,
  • the 67th TRG,
  • the 69th TRG,
  • the 363rd TRG.
The aircraft that were used, were F5 Lightning, the P38 Lightning, the F6 Mustang, the Spitfire PR, the P-51 Mustang and the A20 PR.
