Curtiss P40s of
Jackson Flying School

After the students attended the primary, basic and advanced courses there was the need to prepare them for operational service. So the Dutch decided to set up a course for operational training of fighter pilots. They asked for suitable planes from the USAAF. For this purpose they received Curtiss P40 Warhawk and Kittyhawk planes. This was the same type the Dutch East Indies no.120 Squadron was using in Australia. The operational courses were flown from Jackson Army Air Base.
The P40E, P40F and P40L planes were lent from the USAAF. The P40N planes were Dutch property and were given to the USAAF on a Reverse-Lend-Lease basis. A total of 30 P40s were used for operational training.
