March 30th 1943

Lancaster I W4858 PH-A of 12 Sq.

Crashed: Hit by flak near the target which damaged the fuel tanks. Two hours later, both starboard engines failed due to lack of petrol and with approximately 20 gallons remaining, the order to bail out was given. At least six did so, but tragically Sgt Warren's parachute failed to deploy before he hit the ground. He is buried along with Sgt Morton.
