Aircraft was on a gardening operation. All contact lost at 04:10 hrs (GMT) and it is presumed to have ditched 40-45 miles E of Flamborough Head.
Six weeks later the body of P/O Bell washed ashore on the Dutch Coast and was buried at Bergen op Zoom.
His three companions are MIA and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
